“Mind that Moves” Interview -
Keith Cunningham

Age: 27

Birthplace:Santa Fe, NM

Residence:San Diego

What area: Mission Beach SD – On the boardwalk – Island & Oceanfront

Favorite hangout?  San Diego is my playground.  But if I had to answer, Wavehouse,  because it’s the hottest Sunday in town and I live next door.

Favorite DJ? DJ Premier from Gangstarr and DJ G-Roy

What’s in your iPod? Underground hip hop between 1992-1998, DJ G-Roy’s latest funky house mixes and a bunch of old punk rock

Obviously, you are accomplished if Brad chose you for this interview. Who is Keith Cunningham? Marketing Director of VAVi Sport and Social Club.  I am highly motivated tocreate opportunities where anyone can have the time of their life.  I come from a small town but I have always had big dreams.  For the last 9 years I have played an integral roll in creating major scenes for San Diego.   Whether it’s on the sports field or at one of the most popular nightlife destinations, I have had a heavy hand in each.  I have learned a lot in this time and I know what people want. Being positive and outgoing is how I have grown personally and professionally.  It is also how I have been able to get the best response out of people.  It’s evident that I have a lot of local support and also from my friends.  I have been told I bring out the best in people.

What is VAVi? You’re the 18,504th person that’s asked me that.  By the way you’re going to be our next member. VAVi is the largest intramural sports company in San Diego. VAVi has over 18,500 members. We are constantly creating new ways to experience social activities in a sports atmosphere. VAVi organizes and produces over 25 traditional, playground, and obscure sports leagues, classes and clubs.  You can check it all out at now at www.govavi.com where you can also get your FREE membership…sorry had to plug the website.

Did you go to school in San Diego? I went to SDSU in 1998

Best thing about San Diego? SDSU when I was there, the beach because that’s where I’m at now, and anywhere else where in San Diego where I have shaped events and forms of entertainment.

Where can all the ladies find you on the weekend? At my house in Mission Beach.

Do you like girls with big asses? I love big asses… you should see my girls.  Let’s be honest, I love a girl with a slamming body.

How much on average do you spend on a night out on the town? Are you that guy that buys everyone drinks? I should be asking you where the best happy hours are.   So where are they?  It can get pricey.  Of course I buy people drinks, they’re all so broke.  I’m a giver… in more ways than just buying drinks.

What famous person do others say you most resemble? I’m rarely told I resemble someone famous – but when I was younger Richie Cunningham from Happy Days.  I believe I’m not far from being on the same career path as Ron Howard.

Any nicknames? KeithRock

Best kept secret in San Diego? Something a local only would know. Lamplighter Karaoke and The Liquor Box on La Jolla Boulevard (They have great shirts)

Football season is coming up, who will be in the Super Bowl? And who will come out on top? Remember this will be printed! Hahaha Chicago Bears Baby!  I saw my team lose horribly in the Super Bowl last year and now they have something to prove. Bears and Chargers would be ideal for the Superbowl though.

Couple random questions to get that mind moving, since this is a Mind that Moves Interview: Can you cry under water? It depends on how hard you can kicked in the nuts.  Because that’s the only reason you should ever cry under water.

Why is it said that an alarm clock is going off when really it’s coming on? Because it’s going to be thrown off the nightstand and into the garbage.  Therefore it’s going off.

Would you die if you didn't pee? Of course, didn’t you see that Simpsons episode. Your kidneys will explode.

What shape is the sky? Polyhexagonalateral – That’s what I see, is that a shape?

Why does Sea World serve seafood? Because they have the opportunity to serve the freshest fish “literally” right out of the tank.  I am all about animals, but let’s face it, I’m all about eating them too.  Great thinking Sea World.

Alright…that’s enough interrogation...Who’s your mentor? The RZA, The GZA, Old Dirty Bastard, Inspektah Deck, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon the Chef, Method Man – AKA The Wu Tang Clan and of course my parents, my personal advisory board, and a few I work with, I can’t give up all my sources.  Some are just too valuable.

If you could be someone else, who would it be? If I died and was re-incarnated I’d still come back as me… though being Justin Timberlake would have its perks…

You’re a busy man…what else do you do? Work some more, travel, play Inner Tube Water Polo with VAVi, living at my house on the beach, surfing, kicking it with A-Lo and my friends, Oprah’s book of the month, sampling and producing music, concerts, and learning.  Always learning from every interaction and experience.

What’s in the future for Mr. Cunningham? The sky is truly the limit when it comes to my potential.  The very near future holds the expansion of VAVi into North County.  We have some great plans to add some social twists to sports and how you play them.  We are going to be making a big impact into the So-Cal Sports world.  Anything I get involved with I give 110%.  And of course balling with my family once I have one and my friends.

Dream job? A Marketing job where I have a fair amount of creative control and a receptive team.  I’d have an extensive budget, along with a ton of faith and respect from my co-workers and peers.  I’m always going to be marketing something I believe in.  Right now VAVi is my dream job.

Advice to anyone? You never know who you’re talking to so be nice to everyone.  Accomplishing dreams is not that hard.  Just focus, visualize and work your ass off.  It will not be handed to you as many people want.  Hard work pays off.

Shout-outs? Mom and Dad, Juice Box, G-Roy, Martini, A-Lo, my brothers and sisters from day one in SD (love you all), VAVi – govavi.com, Minxpro.com, Eventvibe.com, the rest of my family, C-Nation, the 505 crew, DJ BDP, The Freshmaker, DJ RGS, Happy Hour Magazine, my roommates and most importantly all of my worldwide crew that has always pushed me to do more.  I would not be doing this well if you didn’t drive me, so thank you.

Sorry for the randomness right now, but I had a couple drinks. This is a drinking publication right??  It’s San Diego.  There is something going on ALL THE TIME and many times it involves drinking!  So yes, I like drinking, and yes this is a drinking publication.  Thanks for asking…
